Improved mental health services for Merton residents
Merton CCG has commissioned a new service to support adult patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and diagnostic autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
The service, which launched on 5 January 2015, will be delivered by South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust from the Wilson Hospital in Mitcham, and is designed to cut down on travel time and waiting times for patients who normally would have to travel to other parts of London.
As the Trust already provides the same service for children and young people, there will now be a seamless transition between children and adult services.
Patients will also benefit from the Trust’s Recovery College which offers a range of courses and resources for service users, families, friends, carers and staff to better understand mental health conditions and support people in their recovery journey.
At the same time the CCG has invested an extra £255,000 in the existing psychological therapies services, which provides support for people with conditions like depression, anxiety and eating disorders. The extra funding means more patients will be able to access the service to get the help they need.
Dr Andrew Otley, Clinical Lead for Mental Health at Merton CCG, said: “Improving mental health services is one of our top priorities and we’re delighted we can put extra funding into psychological therapies services for Merton residents, as well as launching a new service for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. We’d encourage anyone who needs support to speak to their GP about accessing these local services.”
