As Christmas approaches the NHS is urging local residents to check on their health to be ready for the holiday season.
Merton Chief Pharmacist Sedina Agama said: "People with long term health conditions can be more vulnerable to winter illnesses. It is vital that they do not run out of prescription medication as this can make their illness worse at time when the NHS is very busy. We're encouraging everyone to check they have enough medication to see them through the festive period and to keep a supply of over the counter medicines at home for minor ailments. Your local community pharmacy can advise you and what to buy''
People in Merton needing urgent medical advice can also contact NHS 111 throughout the Christmas period or visit their local pharmacist for help treating minor ailments.

GP appointments will still be available from 8am – 8pm over the holidays at Merton's two GP hubs at Wide Way Medical Centre, Mitcham and the Nelson Medical Practice Wimbledon. On Bank Holidays Wide Way Medical Centre will be open.
